- Sudden blurry vision. Immediate blurring of the vision may be an indication of an acute attack of narrow-angle glaucoma. This is caused by fluid accumulation in the front of the eye that can build up quickly and cause not only blurry vision, but severe eye pain accompanied by nausea or headaches. This situation requires immediate medical attention.
- The development of halos. When looking at lights during the nighttime, patients with glaucoma may notice halos or small rainbows in their field of vision. This can make tasks such as driving a dangerous activity as it is more than just glare.
- Tunnel vision. Patients with glaucoma may notice a loss of their peripheral vision. The eliminating of side vision can be an early indicator of glaucoma and patients should be evaluated as soon as possible.
- Severe eye pain. If you are experience severe pain in the eye, it may be caused by fluid pressure. Eye pain should be addressed as soon as possible to avoid further irreversible damage.
- Physical changes in the appearance of the eye. If you are noticing any changes to the appearance of the eyes, such as swelling, crusting, itching, or constant watering, you may be experiencing symptoms of glaucoma.
- Gradual vision loss. When patients have developed glaucoma, they may notice increased vision loss occurring over time. This may be with or without other symptoms. Any type of vision loss should be evaluated by a professional to get a proper diagnosis and avoid permanent damage to one’s eyesight.
