Missions to Honduras

Dr. Sondheimer recently returned from his 4th medical mission to Honduras, where he and his colleagues successfully treated many underserved patients. Sponsored by two international relief agencies — Surgical Eye Expeditions International and Vision Outreach International — Dr. Sondheimer and his team restored eyesight for 47 individuals on this latest mission.

Surgical Eye Expeditions International and Vision Outreach International are leading humanitarian nonprofit agencies working to help children and adults all over the world gain access to quality medical care. They gather eye surgeons and other medical professionals to donate their time and skills to serve those in need.

Dr. Sondheimer has traveled to several countries on 11 surgical missions to help restore vision to people who would otherwise be blind.

They just don’t have the resources to go out and get excellent care,” said Dr. Sondheimer. “What we do helps multiple generations. When you have an older person who can’t see anything, then often a young grandchild is spending his/her life caring for that person.

Prior to this mission, Dr. Sondheimer traveled to Vietnam where he not only helped eye care patients, but also lectured to Vietnamese eye doctors on modern refractive cataract surgery. To learn more about Dr. Sondheimer’s trip to Vietnam, please click here.
